Johnson Public House is another one of my favorite coffeehouses in Madison. Not only do they serve up some fantastic coffee and other coffee drinks, but they also have a small menu to choose from, which is amazing as well. JPH is the definition of a neighborhood coffeehouse and is another hidden gem that you would most likely drive by. JPH is very simple on the outside, not trying to stand out. It has a brick storefront and its name is displayed in all caps in a pale blue. It is not as cozy as some of my other cafe staples, but instead has its own unique feel that is still very inviting, and fits right into the neighborhood. There is plenty of seating through out the store from the wood tables with mismatched chairs to the stools lining the windows. My favorite spot is sitting on a stool right in front of the window. I love looking out the window, watching the people, the cars, the weather, while sipping on my java. Also the way the window fogs up with condensation in the fall and winter is so pretty and makes me feel at ease. There is art work on the walls that gives it that vintage feel as well. The crowd is made up of students, hipsters, neighborhood regulars and young adults. It is not a loud coffeehouse whatsoever; all you hear is the soft music playing, some quiet chatter and the sounds of the baristas working their magic.
The baristas are beyond friendly and always start my morning out right by asking how my day is going. I love how upbeat they are and that they take pride in what they do. I think coffee art is amazing in its own way, and I have a lot of respect for the work and time baristas put into it. JPH has the best coffee art I have seen in Madison, and trust me I have been to a lot of coffeehouses! It is so perfect you don’t even want to drink your beverage…but then you do because it is so delicious. On Sunday’s when I have my cheat meals, if I am at a cafe or coffeehouse, I like to splurge on a mocha. Their regular coffee is very good, but if I’m going all out then heck I’m going to get a chocolatey, almond milk mocha. Then there is my go-to breakfast there, the yogurt and granola. They take something as simple as yogurt, fruit and granola and present it in such an appetizing way. The set up of the glass jars with the yogurt and fruit separated from the granola is so cute and clean.
I can hardly ever await the arrival of both my beverage and the pieces of the parfait ensemble. The first sip of my mocha is hot, smooth and chocolaty. I can be very picky when it comes to a good mocha, and this my friends goes beyond my standards. I also love their mugs at JPH and how the handles curve and mesh with the top of the mug. The yogurt, fruit, and granola I could literally eat all day long. They make homemade granola and it is to die for. You can taste the quality in it from its sweet flavors and its perfect crunchy texture. The berries that are served with the granola are always so plump and fresh, and definitely not some frozen fruit zapped in the microwave. Gosh it is so good… I’m getting hungry thinking about it. Anyway between its laid back, relaxed atmosphere and the delicious drinks and parfait, JPH will always be one of my favs. I really hope you all check this place out, you will be glad you did! Comment and let me know if you try it!
